USDA Offers Loan Assistance to Nebraska Counties Affected by Drought
US · Published May 12, 2026
The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has announced loan assistance for farmers in Nebraska counties impacted by ongoing drought conditions.
According to Governor Jim Pillen, the USDA's Farm Service Agency has issued a disaster declaration covering three primary counties—Keya Paha, Rock, and 10 contiguous counties, including Boyd, Brown, and Holt.
This declaration enables farmers in these areas to apply for financial assistance to mitigate the effects of the drought.

Why It's Important?

The drought has significantly impacted agricultural operations in the affected counties, posing risks to crop yields and livestock health. Farmers in Keya Paha, Rock, Boyd, Brown, Holt, and surrounding areas face financial strain due to reduced productivity and increased costs associated with drought management. The USDA's loan assistance aims to alleviate some of these challenges, but the long-term effects of the drought on the region's agricultural economy remain a concern.
